Welcome to Sheltie Amicale !

The idea to create a new association of Sheltie lovers in France took seed a few years ago. Round about March 2009 a handful of sheltie fanciers got together and started to work on the creation of « Sheltie Amicale ». Our association was officially declared in November 2009 and is controlled according to the 1 st of Juillet 1901 law (Loi 1901, France).

The year 2009 is not an accidental choice; it is also the 100th birthday of the creation of the very first Shetland Sheepdog Club worldwide (the Scottish Shetland Sheepdog Club).

INFORM, EDUCATE and DISCOVER are our key words around which the Amicale is built.

As with the majority of ‘ amicale ' (literally amicable) clubs, Sheltie Amicale comes, not in conflict with the official breed club here in France, the SHETLAND CLUB DE FRANCE, but in compliment to it. In effect, above all our goal is to teach newcomers about our beautiful breed, to guide and help them and, of course, SHARE. This does not mean that breeders are excluded, on the contrary! All are welcome to our club, or should we say YOUR club because our objective is to be open to all discussions, to grow through you, our club members: Your thoughts, your ideas and your support. The idea is to have your opinions on all kinds of subjects, presented on this site in the form of polls.

The first objective is to unite all Sheltie lovers outside of shows. For this, the committee and the future regional and country representatives will be at your disposition to listen and advise. Friendly meetings will be put into place: sporting days and seminars amongst others. Indeed, these events will offer us a place for Sheltie lovers to meet, but also to bring us further knowledge of the breed: physical appearance (standard), comportment, health issues, ring craft, grooming etc. etc. Sporting activities will be organised during these meetings so as each and every one of us can discover our passions, our talents, and most of all the complicity which binds us with our Shelties.

The ideal would be to have as many professional speakers present as possible (judges, vets, behaviour specialists, confirmed ‘sportsmen' etc).

As you have seen on entering the site, we have given you the choice between the French and English versions. Indeed, our club is open to all, including persons abroad. Not only may they become members but also participate in our club life and partake in our events.

One objective which is of utmost importance to us is our rescue service. We are making a huge effort so as to be informed immediately of Shelties looking for new homes and to find them new loving families as quickly as possible. An ‘Adopt me!' section is available on this site.

To conclude, we are an ‘amicable' club in every way. On the other hand, our club is humane with a true concern for every individual Sheltie and a passion for the evolution of our breed.
